Do You Dread Smiling in Photographs?

Although selfies seem to be everywhere these days, it would appear that not everyone is happy to smile for the camera!

A new nationwide poll by the Oral Health Foundation and Oral-B has revealed just 29% of us (that’s less than a third) are likely to pose for a photograph with an open mouth smile. Findings showed that discoloured teeth are the biggest embarrassment when showing our teeth, with 33% saying it was the biggest reason for hiding their smile in photos.

The results showed that women are far more likely to smile for a photo than men, with more than 80% choosing to smile compared to 68% of men.

Shockingly, the survey also showed that a huge 55% of UK adults are only brushing their teeth once a day!

Dr Nigel Carter OBE, CEO of the Oral Health Foundation said:

“Discoloured and crooked teeth are two of the biggest reasons identified for the lack of toothy smiles but thankfully addressing these and taking care of our oral health is quite simple.

As long as we brush our teeth for two minutes twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, cut down on how often we eat sugary foods and drinks, and visit the dentist regularly, as often as they recommend, we can help address major oral health problems.”
