Root Canal Treatment

You don't necessarily have to have a tooth extraction following a severe fracture or after suffering facial swelling/pain with dental abscesses, you can try to save your tooth with Root Canal Treatment

If you fracture a tooth and expose the nerve i.e. following an accident or have decay that has progressed deep into the pulp cavity, then it is usually essential for a root canal treatment in order to save the tooth. If you don’t treat a tooth it could eventually lead to an apical abscess which can cause severe pain or facial swelling. The dentist uses the latest technology to carry out root canal treatment to the highest standards. We understand that you may be a little apprehensive to undergo root filling treatment but we can assure you that it is a painless procedure.

We start by giving you a local anaesthetic, the nerve is removed and the canal is flushed out, it is then prepared and widened. Using a rubber filling material, the canal is then filled and condensed. Depending on which tooth it is, one, two or three (on rare occasions four) canals may be found and have to be filled. A root canal treatment is usually done over a number of appointments, ensuring all infection is fully cleared and preventing any problems from developing post root filling. The last stage, which will restore the tooth completely, is to cover the root canal treatment by placing a composite filling, porcelain inlay/onlay on the crown surface of the tooth. If the tooth was originally very broken down and it is not structurally possible to use any of these, then we will do a post crown preparation. This is just like a crown except the dentist uses a post to support it as opposed to preparing your tooth’s own crown surface.

This means you don’t necessarily have to have a tooth extraction following a severe fracture or after suffering facial swelling/pain with dental abscesses, you can save your tooth and restore function along with aesthetics at Leeds Dental Centre Liverpool.
