What are Zygomatic Implants?

Zygomatic implants are longer (35mm to 50mm approx.) than conventional dental implants, and fuse with the Zygomatic bone (cheekbone) rather than just the alveolar bone in the maxilla (upper jaw). They are a great alternative for those who don’t have enough bone for standard dental implants, or fixed bridges and can be placed without any bone grafting. It’s an advanced treatment that only a handful of UK dentists are trained to do, but at Leeds Dental Centre, our wealth of experience means that we can offer zygomatic implants to patients in need. Due to the nature of this procedure, zygomatic implants can only be used to replace the upper teeth.

What are the benefits of Zygomatic Implants?

Zygomatic implants have all the benefits of regular dental implants, despite it being a slightly more invasive treatment option, they allow the dentist to restore your smile when you don't have enough maxillary (upper jaw) bone. Here are just some of the main benefits of the pioneering treatment: No need for Sinus Lifting or Bone Grafting. Can be immediately loaded on the day of placement to restore your teeth/smile! Why Choose Leeds Dental Centre for Zygomatic Implants?

With over 25 years experience placing implants, we believe we are one of the best practices in Leeds for zygomatic treatment. As well as a fantastic end result, we also focus on making our patients feel at ease. For zygomatic implants, we use intravenous (IV) sedation to reduce any anxiety, and help you feel calm from start to finish. The sedation is designed to induce memory loss during the procedure, whilst you will remain conscious throughout, the amnesic effect will wear off. We also offer flexible finance options, which can help you spread the cost into manageable monthly payments. Find out more about our dental financing (subject to status, T&Cs apply). Whilst there are opportunities to get zygomatic implants abroad, you must remember that it’s a fairly invasive procedure that could require maintenance once complete. Many dentists in the UK will not treat patients who have had zygomatic implant treatment abroad, so choosing a respected UK-based practice such as Leeds Dental Centre is a much safer option.

How Are Zygomatic Implants Fitted?

zygomatic implant placement

Zygomatic implant placement is very similar to that of dental implants. The drilling process works the same as a standard implant, although the screw passes the posterior maxilla (upper jaw) and is anchored into the zygomatic bone (cheekbone).

What’s great about this procedure is that bone loss doesn’t get in the way of a successful result. When a patient receiving standard dental implants has bone loss, a sinus lift or a series of bone grafting procedures is required to build up the bone. With zygomatic treatment, the implants are secured tightly in the cheekbone instead. This is why the procedure can be completed within a day, and is the ultimate solution for those with greater maxillary (upper jaw) bone loss.
